Olbia is a small port town on the Sardinian coast with numerous ancient monuments from the different cultures that inhabited the island from Phoenician to Roman. With its fertile lands and prime position in the Mediterranean, Olbia has settled easily into modern times as a bustling vibrant town very popular with tourists. In the town there are numerous historical places to be found such as the Romanesque Church of San Simplicio made of granite and with a facade that reveals architectural influences from Tuscany and Lombardy regions and a number of houses with Roman funeral inscriptions. Discover places like the Holy Well of 'Sa Testa' and the Nuragic Group at 'Carbu Abbas', a megalithic monument without support, but stands through the weight of its stones.
Explore the rocky coastline with stunning beaches with long stretches of fine white sands and clear water. Visit Arzachena, a small town with unique ancient monuments and impressive views. Wild horses can be seen throughout the area, and seals abound in the more isolated nooks of the coast. Take a day trip to the Catalan flavoured Alghero, an excellent holiday resort. With a hire car you can also visit the picturesque town of San Pantaleo with the ideal mixture of sandy beaches, countryside and genuine Sardinian character.
