Zante
Zakynthos Zante, Greece, is located 17 nautical miles away from the Peloponnese and 13 nautical miles south of the island of Kefalonia. The Venetians had given to the island the surname “Fiore di Levante”, meaning “Flower of the Orient” because the island has rich and dense vegetation, its mountains are covered with pines and its plains are particularly fertile. This rich vegetation is due to the mild Mediterranean climate of the island, characterized by a high level of rainfalls in winter and lot of sunshine during summer time. Because of the many rainfalls, Zakynthos is a very fertile island and its agricultural production is important. Except agriculture, the other source of income for the inhabitant of the island comes from the increasing tourism. Zakynthos is famous because its unspoiled natural environment is home to the endangered specie of sea turtle called Caretta-Caretta and the Monk seal which go to Zakynthos there during their reproduction period.
